  • Reviewed the 2023 BINGO and possibility of doing another for 2024 with new leadership. Discussed other fundraising opportunities.
  • Reviewed the upcoming events scheduled through September 2024. Reviewed Philmont and options for youth not attending going to a provisional summer camp.
  • Discussed options for summer 2025, either summer camp or High Adventure.
  • Discussed need for additional new members and need to advertise our unique High Adventure program.
  • Discussed the new BSA requirement for adults to be registered and have taken youth protection training before being able to attend an overnight scout event. Excerpt:

(Effective September 1, 2023) Two registered adult leaders 21 years of age or over are required at all Scouting activities, including all meetings. There must be a registered female adult leader 21 years of age or over in every unit serving females. A registered female adult leader 21 years of age or over must be present for any activity involving female youth or female adult program participants. Notwithstanding the minimum leader requirements, age and program-appropriate supervision must always be provided. All adults staying overnight in connection with a Scouting activity must be currently registered in an adult fee required position as listed or as an adult program participant. Limited exception below for Cub Scout overnight Programs. See FAQ 172 for list of adult fee required positions. Registration as a Merit Badge Counselor does not meet this requirement.

Action Items:

  • New and existing members to consider open committee positions and take positions prior to the February committee meeting. Ways and Means and New Membership are probably the two most needed positions.
  • Troop adults to determine if we will host a BINGO 2024 and who will be the leadership prior to the February committee meeting with intent to start BINGO activities as soon as possible if we are proceeding.
  • Adults to help scouts reach out to new recruits personally and through “advertising”.
  • Previously discussed was putting a sign out at Mountain Rd. Try to implement prior to next meeting.
  • Philmont has leader safety training requirements, Mike S follow up on possible resource.
