WHY YOU MAY WANT TO JOIN TROOP 1785
Boy Scouting is about developing young boys and
preparing them for adult life. Part of the program concentrates
on developing leadership skills. This is done by teaching those
skills at training sessions and then giving the boys
opportunities, whether it be on a community service project or
making arrangements for the next camping trip, to practice and
hone those leadership skills. Troop 1785 is a troop that
emphasizes the concept, "The troop is run by the boys." Sure,
there is adult supervision, guidance and counseling, but in our
troop the boys decide when and where to go camping, what programs
will be run and what the meetings and training programs consist
of.

Our troop goes camping one weekend per month. Every other
year we alternate between summer camp and a high adventure trip.
Within the past year a Troop 1785 Scout has had the opportunity
to do white water canoeing, rafting, mountain biking, snow skiing,
swimming, visit historic sites (such as Gettysburg, Antietam,
Monticello, The Smithsonian) go rappelling, spelunking (caving),
learn to build a fire with only flint and steel, go shooting
(rifle & shotgun), bake a cake in a dutch oven, obtain a ham
radio license, go horseback riding, go backpacking and camping.

So if camping, hiking, swimming, canoeing and generally having
fun while learning leadership skills sounds like the things you'd
like to do, then Troop 1785 is the place to be.
