TROOP ADULT LEADERS

Troop 1785 is truly blessed to have a group of outstanding leaders with an extensive experience in scouting. Their credentials are awesome. Many of the senior leaders are involved with scouting because they truly love the work.

Mike Copper

Mike Copper accepted the position of Scoutmaster in February 2011 after our former Scoutmaster was deployed. Mike has lived in Pasadena for over 40 years. He grew up in Riviera Beach and graduated from Northeast High School in 1976.

Mike became involved in scouting when his son joined Cub Scouts. Mike joined the committee and became the Pinewood Derby coordinator. When his daughters saw how much fun their brother was having in Scouting they decided they wanted to be Boy Scouts too, so Mike signed up as a Venturing Crew Advisor. When his son moved from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts, Mike moved to Troop 1785 as an Assistant Scoutmaster.

Mike has extensive training with Scouting. He has been to Scoutmaster training and Introduction to Outdoor Leadership skills. He has been trained in Safe Swim Defense, Weather Hazards, Safety Afloat,Trek Safely, Climb on Safely and Physical Wellness. Mike has completed the Bachelor of Venturing Science Program at the University of Scouting. He attended Powderhorn High Adventure training and Trainer's Edge. Mike is a registered merit badge counselor with the Four Rivers District and he teaches Automotive Maintenance at Merit Badge Madness. Mike served as the quartermaster for the 220-5 Powderhorn at the Baltimore Area Council. In 2010 he was inducted into the Baltimore Area Council's Leadership and Service Corps.

Mike's hobbies are fishing, hiking and camping.

COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN

Mark Oswalt

Mark Oswalt joined Troop 1785 when his oldest son Tim bridged over from Cub Scout Pack 829 in 2004 followed by his younger son, Justin, who bridged in 2008. He took on the responsibilities of Advancement Chairman in 2005, keeping Troop records of merit badges earned and rank advancements, adding the responsibilities of Committee Chairman in 2010. He has been active in all Troop activities, enjoying camping, fishing, and canoeing, and the occasional bike ride.

Mark has lived in Pasadena since 1999, having returned from an overseas assignment with the federal government. He enjoys working outdoors, watching movies, and spending time with his family. He has been married to his wife Barb for 27 years and has four children and two grandsons, both of whom he hopes will someday join Troop 1785 as well.

Mark's previous scouting experience includes being an active parent with Pack 829, taking on the position of Committee Chairman for the Pack and being a registered Girl Scout with Cadet Troop 1630, participating in troop activities with his wife and daughters. As a boy, he was a member of his local Boy Scout Troop, achieving the rank of Second Class before moving on to other interests.

Mark's son Tim earned his Eagle rank in March 2011 and is looking forward to the day his younger son Justin, currently a Star Scout, earns his Eagle, hopefully in 2012. He enjoys the challenges of his positions with the Troop and participating in as many Troop activities as time will allow.
